[Not A Review] The Attempted Band: Doura Picchi EP

Two albums and several back-to-back singles later, The Attempted Band has returned with their newest EP, 'Doura Picchi'. A collection of three songs; this new project by the band follows a theme that made their last album 'Agoon O Moushumi' stand out—expert storytelling weaved through music. The EP was released globally across streaming platforms on 28th February 2021, through Mothership Records.

'Doura Picchi' features two new tracks by the band and a cover of one of West Bengali band Chandrobindoo's songs. Opening with Molecule Khondokar, they tell the tale of the titular character Molecule; a middle-aged scientist, and his journey in life--and into space. The second feature carries the title of the EP, ‘Doura Picchi’; painting a picture of love, loss, and separation. The song was released with an animated music video, post-EP release. And concluding the project comes a mellow cover of Jodi Bolo Ha, a classic by Chandrabindoo.

Although nobody slanders The Attempted Band like the band itself, it hasn’t yet failed to put out music that stands out in the league of contemporary experimental Bangladeshi music. Combining the artistry of both the original lineup and musicians working remotely from around the world, Doura Picchi EP was composed.

“Most bands prefer to focus on the quality of their songs and the skill of their members. We have decided to forge a bold new path and focus on quantity instead. Our aim is to have so many people playing in our songs that everybody will personally know a stakeholder and therefore nobody will be able to acknowledge the glaring truth that our music is, in the words of Immortan Joe and Shakib Bhai, mediocre,” claimed guitarist Imran Aziz, before contradicting himself and releasing the artistic and literary piece of work that is Doura Picchi EP, along with his bandmates.

The Attempted Band has made the EP available for free download on their Bandcamp page. According to bassist Jason Cammarata, the tracks and stems of the EP will be available for public use soon. “The problem is that nobody pirates our music! So we will release all our source tracks in hopes that it is easier to steal if someone wanted to,” assured Cammarata.

The EP has been credited to R, Punam, Gourab De, and Tashfee on vocals; Imran Aziz on guitars and keyboards; Jason Cammarata on bass; Arafat Kazi on drums, percussion, the voice of Molecule Khandokar; Marcela Bastida on keyboards; Mercedes Bralo on the harp; Bill Burley on synthesizers; and Max O’Leary and Kevon on horns; as well as PITOLHEARTA voicing Guru Azam Khan’s character. Matt Silverstein did sound engineering, mixing, and mastering of the EP.
